Cottonwood Heights Real Estate History
Big Cottonwood Canyon was the main source of logs and lumber for the homes of the pioneers settling in the Salt Lake Valley, the area we now know as Cottonwood Heights was an overnight stopping point for the lumber wagons. As construction on the Salt Lake LDS Temple began this area also was a stopping point for the wagon teams bringing granite out of Little Cottonwood Canyon. Before long there was a store, post office, brewery and tavern along Big Cottonwood Creek.
Millions of dollars worth of gold, lead, and silver were eventually mined out of the canyons. Underground water and the high cost of production eventually led to the closure of the mines. The communities that were established, however, have continued to thrive as recreation areas. Picnic and campgrounds abound, the greatest snow on Earth, and world class winter sports facilities all make the Cottonwood Heights area the thriving and exciting place that it is today.
Cottonwood Heights is a great place to live, work, or raise a family. It is in a highly unique location with ready access to a vast variety of business establishments and the freeway system, as well as major ski resorts, and you can get to almost anywhere in the valley within a 20 minute drive from Cottonwood Heights.
