Riverton Real Estate History

Located at the southern end of Salt Lake County, the first people to live in the area that is now Riverton settled in the mid-1850′s. The town’s growth was slow because of the lack of water for irrigation. When more water became available, the town began to grow. Eventually three canals were built to extend water from the Jordon River to the benchland areas, providing irrigation for agricultural uses to the area.

While parts of Riverton remain agricultural, it is more often today thought of as a bedroom community for Salt Lake City. The expansion of Bangerter Highway in recent years and new exits on I15 have greatly reduced the commute time for those living in Riverton.
