Utah County is the second most populated county in the state. Utah County Real Estate History
While Utah County has been home to Native Americans for centuries, the first white men in the area were probably Fathers Dominquez and Escalante during their exploration in 1776. During the mid-19th century, many fur trappers spent time in the Utah valley although the first settlement didn’t occur until Brigham Young sent Mormon pioneers to the area in 1849. Provo appears to the first settlement, getting its name from the Provo River. Other communities soon followed in 1850, including Lehi, Alpine and American Fork.
The population of Utah County continued to grow through WWI and WWII. For some time, Geneva Steel was one of the only major employers in the county but during the last 30 years Utah County has become a major hot spot for entrepreneurs and computer companies. The area now has a well-educated and young population with low crime, a low cost of living and a strong economy.

Utah County is home to two major universities: Brigham Young University and Utah Valley University. The area is also home to parts of three national forests and the Timpangogos Cave National Monument, a cave system in the Wasatch Mountains near American Fork.

There are a number of grants and down payment assistance programs available for home buyers in Utah County. The USDA Rural Housing and Utah Housing Corp both offer 100% financing on home loans. There are also three programs available for Provo, including the Provo 80/20 down payment and closing cost assistance program and a program through Provo Neighborhood Housing Services, Inc.
