What is the Weatherization Assistance Program?
Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) helps low-income individuals and families reduce energy costs and increase comfort and safety in their homes. Individuals, families, the elderly and the disabled who are no more than 150 percent of the current federal poverty income level are eligible for help from the Weatherization Assistance Program. However, priority is given to the elderly and disabled, households with high-energy consumption, emergency situations, and homes with preschool-age children.
Participating households average nearly 33 percent in savings, or approximately $285 per year, after the completion of weatherization improvements. To apply for weatherization assistance, individuals must submit their application to the agency that services the county in which they reside.
