Davis County Real Estate History
Davis County was founded in 1852 when Farmington was designated as the seat. The county is named for Daniel Davis, a Mormon Battalion captain. The area grew very slowly for nearly 50 years, although the creation of the Utal Central Rail Road in 1870 created a large jump in the popularity of Davis County real estate. During this time, roads and water systems improved while many homes became electrified for the first time. The largest city in the county, Layton, was settled in the 1850’s although it didn’t become a city until 1950. Layton is named for Christopher Layton, a Mormon colonizer.
It wasn’t until the establishment of the Hills Air Force Base that the population of county really began to explode. The 2010 census showed a population of 306,000, although this is expected to increase to 360,000 by 2030.
