Emery County Real Estate
Located in central Utah, Emery County has a population under 15,000 and takes its name from George W. Emery, governor of the Utah Territory in the late 1800’s.
Emery County Real Estate History
Emery County has a very long history and was actually occupied thousands of years ago. Evidence of these early occupants still exists throughout the area in the form of pictographs and petroglyphs, all of which are included on the National Register of Historic Places. White men first came to the area in the late 18th century as they crossed through the Uintah Basin. Eventually, these Spanish explorers found a better route a bit south, which later became the Spanish Trail. At first, mostly fur trappers came to Emery County, although pioneers eventually arrived when Brigham Young of the LDS Church issued an order to populate the area.
Today, Emery County is the second largest coal-producing county in Utah with an industry based largely on farming. The real estate market here remains fairly stable.
