Spanish Fork Real Estate

Spanish Fork Real Estate History

Spanish Fork is a rapidly growing city in southern Utah County. The city is at the mouth of Spanish Fork Canyon and offers spectacular views of Utah County and easy access to camping and fishing. Residents of Spanish Fork enjoy easy access to I15 and more populated areas, but also get to enjoy the feel of living in a smaller town with it’s accompanying fresh air and open spaces.

Spanish Fork is named for the two Spanish friars who visited the area in 1776 looking to establish a new trail from Santa Fe, New Mexico to the Spanish Missions in California. This route was later followed by fur trappers traveling the area. The trappers described the area as having “spreading meadons, where there is sufficient irrigable land for two good settlements. Over and above these finest advantages, it has plenty of firewood and timber…many sheltered spots, waters and pasturages, for raising cattle, sheep and horses:.

In 1851 a few Mormon families settled along the Spanish Fork river and by the end of 1852 the area had grown to be home to over 100 families. IN 1854 a fort was built to meet the needs of the settlers, and in January 1855 the area of Spanish Fork was incorporated as a city.

The first commercial industry in the area was a saw mill, which began operation in 1858. A year later the first flour mill opened up for business.

The area remains popular today and as of the 2008 census there were 31,497 people living in Spanish Fork. While there are many employment and recreational activities in Spanish Fork, it is also a popular area for commuters as it is an easy commute to the Provo Metropolitan area.
