Kane County Real Estate

Kane County, located in southern Utah along the Arizona border, has a population just over 6,000 and takes its name from Col. Kane, a friend of the Mormon settlers who came to Kane County. The largest city and county seat of Kane County is Kanab.

    Kane County Real Estate History

Kane County was originally inhabited by the Anasazi people and the Peublo, with historic sites across the county. Many of these sites remain un-excavated, as they’re very remote in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. Kane County was settled eventually by Mormon settlers in 1858, who began cattle ranching until the outbreak of the Black Hawk War. Many farms were abandoned for some time, although Brigham Young eventually encouraged the formation of the United Order, and the population of Kanab and other towns began to grow.

Most of Kane County real estate was originally used for ranching and farming, although the area became known as “Little Hollywood” in the 1950’s when many Western films were made here. By the 1930’s, Kane County became a popular tourist destination with the formation of many national parks and the creation of Lake Powell.
