Millard County Real Estate

Millard County, located in western Utah along the border with White Pine County, Nevada, has a population over 12,000 and takes its name from Millard Fillmore, the President of the United States when the county was founded. The county seat of Millard is Fillmore and the largest city is Delta, Utah.

Millard County Real Estate History

Millard County was once inhabited by the Fremont people, who developed the land here around AD 500. Structures and rock art still exists, although their culture disappeared around AD 1300. American Indians also called Millard County home, including the Goshutes, the Utes and the Paiute people.

In 1851, Brigham Young directed Mormon settlers to move to the area from Salt Lake City and thirty families created the first settlement here at Chalk Creek, which is today Fillmore. Fillmore was temporarily the capital of the state, although it was moved to Salt Lake City in 1856.

Today, most of the real estate market surrounds fossil hunting, farming, mining (including beryllium) and electricity, as the Intermountain Power Project generator here is a major supplier of power to Southern California.
